JR FIREFIGHTER
BYLAWS

Article 1 - Purpose
  • To provide a program for the youth of our community that will assist them with the challenges of life.
  • To provide a program that will help aid the Woden Fire Department with its operations.
  • To provide a program that will help our communities in times of need.

Article 2 - Organization

  • The Woden  Fire Department shall have a Junior Firefighter Program.  The Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department will appoint an Advisory Board to oversee the program.  The program will be governed by the rules, regulations and guidelines of the Woden Fire Department.
  • The Junior Firefighter program and its members will abide by all fedral and state regulations.
                 

Article 3 - Membership
  •  Junior Firefighters must be at least 12 years of age and not older than 17 years of age.  They must be itizens of the United States, residents of Nacogdoches County, and be of good moral character.  Junior Firefighters must also maintain acceptable grades in their schoolwork.
  • Members must abide by the Bylaws and Standard Operating Guidelines of the Woden Fire Department, as well as the Junior Firefighter Bylaws and Standard Operating Guidelines as set forth by the Woden Fire Department.
  • Upon reaching their 18'th birthday, Junior Firefighters in good standing shall, by design, become probationary firefighters of the Woden Fire Department and will receive full credit for their training with SFFMA.
  • Failure to follow the bylaws, rules, and standard operating guidelines of the Junior Firefighter Program will be grounds for dismissal.

Article 4 - Officers

  • Officers of the Woden Junior Firefighter Program will consist of a Junior Fire Chief, Junior Assistant Fire Chief, Secretary, and Treasurer.
  • Elections will be held at the first meeting in January of each year.
  • To be eligible to be Jr. Firefighter Chief or Jr. Firefighter Assistant Chief, must have been a member of the Woden Jr. Firefighter program for 6 months and have a 90% attendance of meetings.  Excused absences will not count against the attendance and will be determined by the Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department.
  • To be eligible to hold any other office a Jr. Firefighter must have been a member of the Woden Jr. Firefighter program for 6 months and have a 70% attendance of meetings.  Excused absences will not count against the attendance and will be determined by the Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department.
  • Vacancies will be filled by a majority vote of the membership.
  • Failure to follow the bylaws, rules, and standard operating guidelines of the Woden Fire Department will be grounds for dismissal.

Article 5 - Duties of Officers
  • The Junior Fire Chief will assist the Junior Firefighter Advisors in conducting regular meetings of the Junior Firefighter Program.
  • The Junior Assistant Fire Chief will assume these duties in the absence of the Junior Fire Chief.
  • The Secretary will take notes at all meetings of the Junior Firefighter Program.  The Secretary will also keep an accurate record of all Junior Firefighters.
  • The Treasurer will keep an accurate record of all funds of the Junior Firefighter Program.

Article 6 - Termination of Membership

  • A request to have a Junior Firefighter's membership terminated may be made by any member of the Woden Fire Department.
  • Upon a request being made to the Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department for the termination of membership of a member of the Junior Firefighter Program, the Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department will call a special meeting of the Board of the Woden Fire Department to discuss said request.  Also included in this meeting will be the members of the Junior Firefighter Advisory Board and anyone that the Fire Chief of the Woden Fire Department deems pertinent to said request.  The Junior Firefighter of said request and the Junior Firefighter's legal guardian have the right to be present and to ask questions at this meeting.
  • The Board of the Woden Fire Department has the authority to terminate the membership of said member, suspend said member, place said member on probation, or to take no action.
  • Termination of membership from this program may be done at any time by a majority vote of the Board of the Woden Fire Department or by voluntary request of a Junior Firefighter or by request of the legal guardian of a Junior Firefighter.

Article 7 - Quorum
  • A quorum to conduct business of this organization will require 50% of the membership to be in attendance.

Article 8 - Amendment of Bylaws

  • A majority vote is required by the membership of the Junior Firefighters for an amendment  to be proposed at the next regular meeting of the Woden Fire Department.
  • Upon a majority vote of the membership of the Junior Firefighters, the Junior Fire Chief will contact the Woden Fire Chief and inform him of the proposed amendment.
  • The amendment will then be proposed at the next meeting of the Woden Fire Department.
  • These bylaws may only be amended by a 2/3rds vote by themembers of the Woden Fire Department at a regular meeting of the department.
  • An amendment to these bylaws may also be proposed by any member of the Woden Fire Department at any regular meeting of the Woden Fire Department.  The amendment will then be voted on at the next regular meeting of the department and will require a 2/3rds vote of the department.
